The basic mono system contains:
1 x Rack Case (4 space) 2 x Alesis Midiverb II's (1 is a spare) 1 x Korg DTR-2000 Digital Tuner 1 x Audiotec DI-Four (4 channel DI unit) 1 x AER Compact 60 amp 1 x 220/240 volt to 110/115 volt step down transformer
** Cables are Laboga and Belden
It's a simple set-up with 3 DI lines out. A 4th line can be used for right out of the Midiverb if needed. This set-up isolates the clean guitar signal from the effects signal.
01: Guitar (dry) 02: Alesis Midiverb II - left (FX) 03: AER Compact 60 - line out (amp 1)
This system is 110 volt set-up, but can be used in countries which have 220/240 volt power when plugged into a step down transformer.
"HOW IT"S WIRED"
Guitar to Tuner input. Tuner output to DI input channel 1. DI channel 1 link to Midiverb left in. Midiverb left output to DI input channel 2. DI channel 2 link to AER amp input. AER amp line output to DI channel 3 input. This is a simple mono set-up. CH1 - guitar (dry), CH2 - Midiverb left, CH3 - AER amp.
By putting the guitar into the tuner first TE is able to press the MUTE button and tune the guitar in silence if he chooses to.
** The Audiotec DI-Four unit replaced the Behringer Ultra-DI Pro/4000. Hopefully the system is still wired as described above. |

Thanks Hawkeye, couple of questions, that partly probably been answered before...
How is it all connected? How is the tuner connected. Is it in the signal chain, before or after the midiverb, or does it get a feed from the tuner output on the AER?
edited the connections out to avoid confusion. |

I thought these were some cool close ups of Tommy's rig:

I'm assuming this was around 2005 in Japan/Korea.
Hawkeye, you said he has a Midiverb as a spare, does he rotate between them so they get an even workout? |

Hi there,
I notice in a photo of TE's rack that he has replaced the Behrhinger ULTRA-DI PRO with an Audiotec DI-Four unit. I assume it has been wired the same way as the previous system.

Hi there,
No he does not rotate the Midiverbs, the second one is just a spare.

I did it slightly differently because I am not working at the moment. If I was I may change the tuner as the one I use is a little slow to respond... But here's what I got: (Prices in Australian Dollars)
Gator 3RU Rack Case = $135 (Billy Hyde's) Alesis Midiverb II = $50 + Postage (eBay) Behringer BTR2000 Rack Tuner = $139 (Billy Hyde's) Behringer Ultra DI-Pro / 4000 = $179 (Billy Hyde's) AER Compat 60 = $1600 (Guitar Factory)
Throw in 5 grand for a couple of Matons and there you have it....

Sorry to ask this Hawkeye - I feel a bit of a donut - What is the model Maton guitar Tommy uses for his live shows? The really battered one we have all come to know and love so well (the Mouse I think he calls it!). Is it one we can purchase. If not, what would be the nearest model that matches it?
Very many thanks in advance

Maton bg808TE. You can buy from a dealer for around $2000. US. I have assembled a nice acoustic rig. Maton, Roland acoustic amp with a KRK 10" powered subwoofer. It wasn't until I bought an Alesis Midiverb 2 ($48.00 US on ebay) that my rig came to life. The Midiverb will make almost any rig sound like a million bucks. |

Hi there,
EBG808TE - "The new Mouse" - main guitar (battered) TE1 - used for Initiation and Heartbreak Hotel - detuned to C# (even more battered)

Hi there,
TE uses .012 - .054 gauge strings on the EBG808TE and the Custom Jumbo Matons, and the TE1 has .013 - .056 gauge strings. He varies the brands but mainly uses Martin, Everly or Dean Markley.
EBG808TE - E-A-D-G-B-E @ 444hz Custom Jumbo - D-G-D-G-B-E @ 444hz TE1 - C#-F#-B-E-G#-C# @ 444hz
*These are TE's usual tunings and string gauges *

Thanks Hawkeye!
That's disturbing! I was hoping he used a lighter gage or slack tuning instead of having incredible finger strength! DIdn't sound like ti that's why I asked!
Thanks again Billy T
