Just came home from Tommy's last show in Germany this year...
It was the first time I saw Tommy live and he blew me off my feet - me and the whole audience!
Put aside all his CDs and DVDs! Go out and see and hear the show!!!! If you think nothing and no one can beat Tommy's music - Tommy can!!!

I have seen the show yesterday either. It was a good one! Does anybody have the setlist? |

| I've been to the concert in Tonhalle, too, but unfortunately I was late due to a misprinted ticket, so I missed the beginning. But I can tell you the titels I remember anyway: The hunt, The digger's waltz, And so it goes, Beatles Medley, Mona Lisa, Drivetime, Angelina, Amazing Grace, Train to Dusseldorf, Initiation, Tall fiddler, Green Thumb (?), Today is mine and a few more I'm not quite sure about because I'm listening to Tommy's music each and every day and I might mix it up. Can anybody tell me which titles I missed at the beginning?? |

Thank you, Dimon. Too bad, I never heard Jolly Swagman. Hope it will be on the new cd which is to be released in January as I was told. By the way, I was sitting in the first row, too. Wasn't that totally mesmerizing to watch these incredible fingers and this charismatic personality? This experience - like the three other concerts I had the luck to attend - will be burnt onto my internal CPU for the rest of my life. |

Hi, Dimon! Thank you so much for the link and sorry for answering so late! I've been cut off the global network for three weeks due to a broken hardware ... You seem to be a pilgrim for Tommy's music, too, brother ... :)

Hi cflatmajor! Yes, I became to a pilgrim, since I saw him the first time in Cologne (Millowitsch Theater) Then I decided to quit my Hardrock band which is not unknown here in Düren/Aachen, and I did! Now I play the Acoustic all the time and have fun! :-)

| Hi, Dima! That's funny: I saw him first in Köln, Millowitsch Theater, too, and was totally mesmerized! There were a few guys in front of me who said to each other: Okay, guys, let's meet tomorrow to burn our guitars! Perhaps you were one of them ... As to me, this experience made me pick up my guitar again after a couple of years. But I guess I'll never try to play TE-songs, I'm afraid I'm too short-fingered and too short-talented for that. Somehow I can't quite understand why people try to play them. I mean, I admire their courage and persistance but it must be pretty frustrating when there is no doubt that they'll never play it even half as good as Tommy does. So I'm satisfied with playing a bit of David Qualey, Werner Lämmerhirt and a few others and it makes me feel good (even though of course I don't play it as good as them either). What do you play? Greetings, Chris. |

Hey Chris!
Yes, I was one of them! When I came home, I kicked my guitar in the corner! :-) Hm, what do I play? Everething and nothing! :-) After playing Hardrock for 10 years, I have to learn how to play fingerstyle nearly from beginning! So I picked some of the easiest T.E. songs, and try to play them! Of course it sounds not even close to the original, but who cares? It is a lot of fun to play, and I learn some new chords! :-) So you shouldn´t be afraid to start learning one of Tommy songs, of course it wouldn`t sound like him! No one would sound like he does!
Btw: Here is the Band where I played! www.myspace.com/evidenceoffear

Hi, Dima! I liked your link! The music you made with your ex-band was really full of power and vigor. But something struck me: Isn't it quite a step from Heavy Metal to Tommy Emmanuel? How come you were so mesmerized with such a (as I see it) totally different music? Oh well, I guess coming into Tommy's magnetic field just did the trick. Who could evade his pull? And as a matter of fact my sons even manage to combine the love for Bach with the love for Deep Purple. And I really understand them. So you play Tommy's songs? I've bought each and any of his song books just to comprehend more of what he's doing there. And I must admit I tried to play one or two songs. But I was stopped instantly because there were chords which were simply impossible for my short fingers to strike (for example there is no chance of using my left thumb). I've grown a few millimeters of calluses, of course, but that won't help too much. Anyway, my immense respect for this absolutely unique genius is kind of an obstacle to my attempts. So for now I'd rather listen ... Maybe one day I'll try again. I guess you' re right: Learning so much from his songs must be fun! Another question: Have you been to Rietberg last summer? My son says he is totally sure he recognizes your face. That would really be a funny coincident, wouldn't it? Greetings, Chris. |

I used to play the most extreme genres of metal and hard rock as well. I still listen to it sometimes, as well as play it now, but a few years ago I sort of lost my inspiration to play for some reason. Felt like I was going around in circles, and wasn't discovering any new great music that I really wanted to learn.
So I had stopped playing for a long time when I found out about Tommy on youtube (he was playing Classical Gas). I think within a month I had gone out and bought an acoustic guitar and a few thumbpicks and gotten to work on Windy and Warm. Through Tommy I've found out about lots of other musicians, and I'm currently more inspired than I ever was I think.
My friends do give me strange looks though when they find out that I listen to metal one day, and fingerpicking the next. :) |

Hi Starwars! Nice to hear that there are other "cross-listeners" around. Those "strange looks" from friends I know so well! I always had to do my cross-listening in secrecy, because other Bach-fans would never understand how I could possibly be fascinated by Nirvana, too, and other Joel-fans wouldn't accept my love for Stravinsky's music. I guess this kind of musical taste is a bit extreme, but I never cared. Why shouldn't each era have fantastic music? But for almost two years now my listening habits have been restricted to TE music and his music only which really took me by surprise, because I've never felt like confining myself to only one kind of music before. To me Tommy's music is so multidimensional and rich that I just won't manage to get fed up with it ... ;-) |

Hi Chris! Sorry for the delay! Hm, maybe for my friends and all the people I know it is a big musically change, but not really for me....I always listened to hardrock and acoustic stuff... instrumental, a bit classical, unplugged (Alice in Chains unplugged for ever!! :-) so this acoustic thing is not really new to me, it is just an "another part of me" :-)
I hope I`ll get my new mic soon, then I will upload a Video on YT (T.E`s "Stay close to me") I love this Song! ;-)
